MAM at Planet Comicon
Weekend of March 21st thru March 23rd, 2025
Mid-America Mensa (MAM) once again will participate at Planet Comicon, one of the leading science-fiction Comicon in the U.S. This year will be the 26th Anniversary show of the event, held across three days at the KC Convention Center. You could be feeling the energy as thousands line up in basic themed t-shirts to full out cosplaying.
Featured stars include favorite comic book and Hollywood artists, special guests – including David Tennant (Actor) — and cast members from The Lord of the Rings, Scream, Supernatural, Beverly Hills 90210, Rick & Morty, Saved by the Bell, and Comics Industry Legend Joe Quesada.
For the third year in a row, we will have our table located in the nonprofit area in the main hallway. We usually share all about Mensa and MAM, the Mensa Foundation, the AG (Annual Gathering), hand out show-themed quizzes and discuss the many, many ways how someone can join Mensa, from our monthly testing to the over 100 other tests we accept.
As for giveaways, MAM has received 3 boxes from National HQ. One contains about 75 of the Mensa dice, which I recommend we give out for those who either: 1) register to take the test; 2) score 9 or 10 on the fun quiz and give us their email; or 3) are just kids who sign up for the National Reading program. Or, we’ll give a reward for any other action one might take as a true attempt at engaging with Mensa or wanting to join MAM.
In addition to the dice, America Mensa HQ sent a few more shirts and information on the reading program. [Note: National HQ has emailed us flyers to print and handout to gifted kids and to those who are in the Excellence in Reading program.] Also, MAM still has pencils from the past 2 years which we will also hand out.
Additionally, space in the board gaming room has been secured for us should we decide to have a presence there. National will be sending out multiple copies of some past winning games from Mensa Mind Games.
We get a huge number of questions about gifted kid resources. Hence, there will be a ramp up this year for kids programming. We also have given out over 500 themed paper quizzes with our local contact details in past years. We’ve taken and handed out an additional 100 plus quizzes in the gaming room, given information to the local gaming retailers, and given to schools and engineering groups with show booths.
Signup for Planet Comicon is now live and it has been posted on Facebook. This year most time blocks are 3-hour blocks instead of 2 hours.
