BACK-TO-SCHOOL EDITION

Have you participated in or attended an organized social event recently? Were you happy with how people behaved according to COVID guidelines and restrictions OR were you hoping for something stricter? It seems like local school districts are addressing these and similar issues and questions as schools open up for their students and regular classes. We continue to hope & work for the best outcomes. Good luck to everyone!

MAM Picnic 2021

This year’s MAM Picnic & Auction will be remembered as simply amazing! Some 50 attended, including several who had never been to a MAM event before. The weather was (almost) perfect. Because it was an outdoor event, COVID worries were somewhat decreased. Two volunteer chefs – John and Andy – ensured a great meal for us. The nearby playground was a hit. Many interesting and unique items were sold at the auction, and the money (both raised and donated) was added to MAM’s scholarship fund. Several flats of mostly canned goods were donated to Harvesters. All in all, it was a great afternoon. Many thanks to everyone who helped to make the picnic & auction happen.

Ethnic Eats

Ethnic Eats in August brought almost 15 of us together at Aixois Bistro and everyone seemed to enjoy investigating a taste of French cuisine. There were escargots la bourguigonne, moules marinieres, crepes au marron, omelet, salade d’avocat et crevettes, chicken paillard, croque madame, pommes frites with truffle oil, royale with cheese, and, of course, desserts like: chocolate mousse, a meringue swimming in crème anglaise. Even the French fries (pommes frites) were tastefully authentic! In September, join Ethnic Eats at Sahara Café, 705 SE Melody Lane, Lee’s Summit, MO. Please RSVP so we can arrange a table for all of us. See the September Mension for more event details and contact info.

Tiki Party with Bonfire
Saturday, September 25th, 6:00 pm
See Mension for location details

Roast hot dogs, brats, and marshmallows and whatever Luau-Tiki fare you or we can think of. Sip a little rum punch. We’ll have some soft drinks, too. Bring a dish to share; and make it Tiki-style if you can manage it. Dress up (or down, within good reason) in Tiki style. There will be prizes for the best costumes. In addition, there may be a limbo bar and one or two other games. While the seating area is spacious enough, please do bring your own camp chairs. If this late summer, early autumn outdoor party sounds like fun to you, see your copy of the Mension for event details & contact info.
