Does the weather where you are make you think of summer? It certainly does feel like July, albeit without the Annual Gathering here in KC this month, in Mid-America Mensa. Okay, it is summer; partial re-opening is exactly what we all really deserve now. With some of the seasonal activities coming back online, we should all feel encouraged and that the changing of the season is going to bring something better. The days surely seem longer in terms of daylight minutes. So, here’s what is happening around Mid-America Mensa.

Walkabout KC resumes for the summer months ahead starting on Saturday, July 4th at 10:00 am. ‘Where in the world?’, you may be wondering – because we all really enjoy a good, brisk walk in the morning. If you have a spring in your step then check out the July Mension for some more of the details, like the contact info and location for this MAM event.

Mid-America Mensa’s executive board has met virtually for several months (May & June) now. If you use a computer and/or phone and you want to join a Zoom-facilitated Board meeting, you just need to contact a MAM Board member (or another MAM officer) who may have the details about joining it. In addition, it was decided that MAM should have our own Zoom account for hosting meetings and other virtual MAM events. We anticipate to have this account secured and available for our activities by the end of June. So, if you are interested in having access to Zoom for a MAM-related activity, then please contact social media officer Rob Swenson. Check the July Mension for more of the details, like how to contact Rob to access this virtual meeting tool.

Ethnic Eats takes another little bit of a different turn in July. In July, Ethnic Eats will be held outdoor bar style – at a MAM member’s home — with plenty of outdoor seating under shady trees on Saturday, July 11th at 1:00 pm. Plan on bringing your own beverages and a dish to share, whether it’s something home-made, takeout, or whatever you’d like. In addition, think about bringing yard games (and your own comfy outdoor chairs if you wish) because there’s a flat, roomy backyard. Check the July Mension for all of the chillaxing details, including the directions to get there, for this MAM event. Contact Karin Miller > [email protected] > for more information and/or to RSVP before July 8th.

Ad Astra Mensa continues to meet but now via the Zoom virtual meeting tool. This is allowing people to participate who cannot for whatever reason travel to Topeka for meeting in person. Ad Astra Mensa will hold another virtual meeting via Zoom on Monday, July 13th at 7:00 pm. Refer to the July Mension for more of the details about this MAM activity, or contact John Scheirman > [email protected] > to get an invitation. All MAM members are encouraged to participate if interested.
