First, congratulations to the newly elected 2022-23 Board members of Mid-America Mensa (MAM). The NomCom meeting took place on January 13th; there were no additional nominations from the floor for any position, so the nominated slate of officers was elected by acclimation. The new MAM Board officers will begin their term, in earnest, on April 1st, 2022.

The 2022-23 MAM Board is as follows:

LocSec — Curt Krambeck
1st Vice President — Cynthia Heller
2nd Vice President — Rob Swenson
Secretary — Jean Matzeder Plumb
Treasurer — Diana Dyer
1st Member-at-Large — Anita Ford
2nd Member-at-Large — David Quisenberry

Mensa Cares Book Drive

As part of MAM’s ongoing participation in Mensa Cares, we are asking Cabin Fever attendees to bring a donation of new or used children’s books which will help support the mission of Reach Out and Read, an organization that places volunteers in pediatric clinics who read to children while they wait to see their doctor. Each child receives a book to take home with them as well. Children who are read to have improved language and listening skills, experience stronger emotional connections more often to their loved ones and gain a lifelong love of reading. If you have books to donate but cannot make it to Cabin Fever, contact Brad Lucht to arrange a pick-up of your donation.

It’s a Beautiful Day in the Neighborhood
Dina Newman, Director of the Center for Neighborhoods at UMKC

Editor’s note: This speaker event has been postponed and it’s now been rescheduled to July 24th at 2:30 pm due to a speaker illness.

What kind of neighborhood do you live in? Sirens every night? Does trash blow down your street? Do you have neighbors who don’t give you the time of day? How would you like to live in the idyllic neighborhood portrayed by Mr. Rogers, with tree-lined streets, neighbors who check in on your welfare, and sidewalks where the kids can walk to school on?

Dina Newman, Director of the Center for Neighborhoods at the University of Missouri—Kansas City, will tell us about her efforts to empower neighborhoods throughout Kansas City. Join us and learn what you can do to make your neighborhood a kinder, more livable place. Register to attend this presentation with an email address associated with your Zoom account.
