January, not unlike the entire calendar that we know, resulted from a great amount of political juggling (and work) by Romans including the highest priest(s) of Roman religion, political rulers of the age like Julius Caesar, and astronomers of the time. It was/is more than a whim. January is the first month of the year – and, thus, it gives each of us a fresh page on which to propagate some of the many new opportunities and interesting challenges which lie ahead. Here’s a look at a few of the happenings going on in Mid-America Mensa during January.

Mid-America Mensa will be having its third-ever Cabin Fever event on Saturday, February 22nd at Meadowbrook Clubhouse, 9101 Nall Avenue, Prairie Village, KS. Cabin Fever this year will offer board game tournaments, a crochet demonstration, puzzles, a soup tasting contest, candy tasting, cheese tasting, beer tasting, a genealogy presentation, charades, karaoke, Werewolf (a social deduction game), and more!

Admission is for Mensans and their guests and children: Adults are $30 and youngsters to 18 years-old are free. Other volunteer discounts are available. So, check out the Mension for more of the heart-warming details as they become available. Please keep an eye on MAM’s Facebook events page for more information as well. Registration will be handled through Eventbrite <https://www.eventbrite.com/e/mam-cabin-fever-tickets-86292764983>. Admission at the door will be $35.

Cabin Fever is still very much being planned before its Saturday, February 22nd date. If you are wanting to get involved in helping out with this event, then head on over to the Cabin Fever planning meeting scheduled for Wednesday, January 8th at 5:30 pm in Tabard’s Ale House, 12030 Blue Valley Parkway, Overland Park, KS. RSVPs can be left on MAM’s Facebook events page or at [email protected].

Also, Ethnic Eats resumes in January because we all want and need something to warm us up – like Korean fried chicken. We’ll be going to Koko Dak, 14856 Metcalf, Overland Park, KS on Saturday, January 11th at 1:00 pm. An RSVP would be appreciated if you are interested in being there and to ensure that the proper seating arrangements are made. See MAM’s Facebook events page or the Mension for more of the details and who to contact.
